Burn Outs

Last post, I talked about the feeling that I've burnt out on Path of Exile. To me, it's a feeling that I've become all too familiar with and has a very specific trajectory.

I think that people normally start feeling burnt out when they bore of a game. Maybe it starts feeling too easy or maybe it's because you've played the game so many times that the content no longer interests you. I've felt that about many games over the years as well but I tend to take it a step further before calling it a lost cause.

First thing to know is that I tend to enjoy looters more than other titles. Games like Borderlands, The Division, Diablo 3, and Path of Exile are my most played games. Second is that I tend to overplay these genres because there are so many builds that could be played. We're talking thousands of hours in Diablo 3 and Path of Exile.

When I felt myself burning out in Path of Exile, I basically doubled down by making multiple builds during each league. During Legion League, I played six builds: MF TS Deadeye(91), Impale Barrage/TS Champion(87), Soulwrest Phantasm/SRS Necromancer(71), Cospri CoC Frostbolt/Ice Nova Assassin(94), Cyclone HoAg/Holy Relic/HoP Guardian(65), and Phys Crit Cyclone/Flicker Strike Berserker(78). This league, I've gotten two characters into maps and and a third that I'm just a single step away from maps: Impale Barrage/TS Champion(84), Cospri CoC Frostbolt/Ice Nova Assassin(73), Phys Cyclone Max Block Gladiator(68).

Now while making new characters does help to stave off burn out for a short period, there comes a time when I know that I'm completely tired of playing a game. It's happened with D3, Borderlands, and The Division before it and I'm feeling the same effects with Path of Exile right now. Basically, it's when I feel like I'm about to fall asleep from boredom. There's getting tired of playing the game and then there's a level above that where it's kinda interesting but you're still feeling like you're about to fall asleep if you continue playing. That's where I am right now.

Maybe it's because this league just feels so much slower than Legion League. I haven't found a single exalt yet and I've gotten only a single Divine drop this league. I haven't been able to flesh out a single build yet.

Humble Monthly Bundle and the Classic Tier

So apparently Humble Bundle is changing their monthly subscription service away from the current version where you buy a lootbox of games except for one or two headliners that you may or may not want. And the gaming community is in uproar. What's the deal? Currently, there's anywhere from one to three headliners in a bundle that you base your purchase off of. Don't like Spyro, Crash, and CoD WW2? Then just skip the month. Sure, there's going to be other games that will be revealed at the first Friday of the following month but are you really going to buy a $12 bundle for some unnamed games that may or may not be something you want? On a similar vein, Humble Bundle has always taken the road of giving benefits to new subscribers or subscribers who have cancelled their subscription to draw them back in. $3 off the next monthly bundle? Oh fuck you, current subscribers! You don't get anything! It's been said before and complained about on Reddit of how the prom...

I guess you could call this a journal of how poorly my gaming goes...

Basically, I figured I would try to do different things. Instead of just playing games and logging off for the day, I'd make a blog so I can talk about different things and have them recorded for all of eternity. Because that's what the internet's for. I figured I'd start things off on a high note: I'm getting real tired of Path of Exile. Like really tired. I'll admit this is a burn out of my own making. I was pretty dumb to decide to join in on the Glacier farming during Legion league. I wanted to see how profitable it would be and if I would be able to get a Headhunter for once. Long story short, I didn't. I ran about 244 maps in two days and decided that was enough PoE for the rest of the league. So on the first day, I made quite a large haul. Yeah, I made a spreadsheet. I tallied up all the currency drops I received over the course of a hundred maps on the first day on the box to the right to determine what my total drops were(misleadingly l...
